About Stone Mountain State Park
Rising against the backdrop of North Carolina’s rolling Piedmont region, Stone Mountain State Park Campground captivates campers with its rugged granite dome, lush forested landscape, and serene streams. Offering both a tranquil escape and diverse recreational opportunities, it combines modern amenities with access to some of the state’s most scenic vistas and hiking trails.
This year-round campground features 88 family campsites, including 41 with electric hookups, plus six backcountry sites for more adventurous campers. Each campsite is well-equipped with a tent pad, picnic table, fire ring, and grill, while restrooms with hot showers and a dump station ensure comfort. The park’s iconic Stone Mountain Loop Trail offers a challenging ascent to its summit, rewarding hikers with sweeping views, while cascading waterfalls and the historic Hutchinson Homestead provide unique landmarks to explore. For anglers, over 20 miles of designated trout waters promise excellent fly-fishing opportunities.
Located near Roaring Gap, the park is easily reachable from major routes but feels worlds away from urban life. Within 30 minutes, visitors can enjoy the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway's scenic drives, adding to the area’s allure.
