Campground Overview

About Sue-meg State Park

What makes Sue-meg State Park’s campground stand out is its extraordinary setting atop a forested coastal bluff, where dense spruce groves meet dramatic Pacific Ocean cliffs. Offering tranquility, striking natural beauty, and well-maintained campsites, this destination is ideal for campers seeking immersion in Northern California’s rugged coastal environment.

The campground features three distinct loops: Penn Creek for tent camping, and Abalone and Agate Beach for both tents and smaller RVs (up to 30 feet). Each site is outfitted with basic amenities like fire pits, picnic tables, and access to potable water, restrooms, and showers. Agate Beach Campground also includes a few cabins for added comfort. Privacy varies, with some sites surrounded by shrubs for seclusion, while others are more open but offer easy access to trails and shared amenities. A hike-and-bike area caters to adventurers on the go. Beyond the campgrounds, guests can explore tide pools, hike six miles of coastal trails, and marvel at features like Wedding Rock and Agate Beach, known for its semi-precious stones and access to extraordinary sunsets.

Located just five miles north of Trinidad, Sue-meg State Park is a gateway to the Redwood Coast, sitting 30 minutes from must-visit areas like Redwood National Park. This makes it a great base for both weekend escapes and extended vacations. Its unique mix of serene forest camping, dramatic ocean views, and cultural highlights such as a reconstructed Yurok village ensures a camping experience that is both refreshing and memorable.
