Located near Watsonville, California, this bluffside campground combines serenity with striking natural beauty for an idyllic retreat.
Sunset State Beach features 90 well-maintained campsites spread across three loops, accommodating tents and RVs up to 31 feet, although no hookups are available. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and food locker, with restrooms, coin-operated hot showers, and drinking water readily available. The South Camp loop provides the closest proximity to the beach, while Pine Hollow offers a tranquil setting under Monterey pines. The campground is ideal for families, solo adventurers, and groups, with group and hike-and-bike sites available. Dogs are allowed in the campground (on leashes), but not on the beach to protect its delicate ecosystem.
Situated less than 15 minutes from Watsonville and about 30 minutes from Santa Cruz, the campground is surrounded by opportunities for outdoor recreation. Visitors can enjoy beachcombing, fishing, birdwatching, and hiking through the dunes. Nearby, Crystal Bay Farm and Gizdich Ranch provide delightful day trips for berry and apple picking, while the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary offers a chance to witness marine life in its natural habitat.
