Campground Overview
About Tortilla Recreation Site
What distinguishes Tortilla Campground from typical desert camping is its perched location along the historic Apache Trail, offering campers sweeping views of rugged cliffs, vibrant desert flora, and the serene waters of nearby Canyon Lake. Located just past Tortilla Flat and approximately 18 miles from Apache Junction, this campground merges convenience with unspoiled natural beauty, making it an excellent choice for winter camping enthusiasts exploring the Tonto National Forest.
The campground features 70 sites suitable for tents and RVs (up to 30 feet), each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and access to drinking water, flush toilets, and a dump station. Although sites are closely spaced, every camper is treated to vistas of the surrounding desert and saguaro-studded landscapes. Just a short walk away, Tortilla Flat offers a general store, restaurant, and even a post office, enhancing the blend of outdoor adventure and accessibility. Beyond the campground, outdoor options include kayaking, fishing, and boating at Canyon Lake, just two miles away, or exploring the Superstition Wilderness, renowned for its picturesque trails and abundant wildlife.
