About Vedauwoo Campground
Vedauwoo Campground in Buford, Wyoming, surprises with its unique atmosphere of rugged beauty, where towering Sherman granite formations dominate the landscape and beckon climbers, hikers, and nature lovers alike. Located just minutes from Interstate 80 and only 18 miles east of Laramie, this campground combines accessibility with an immersive outdoor experience unlike any other.
The campground is set among striking boulder fields and weathered cliffs, offering 28 standard campsites, including walk-in tent options, and another 20 overflow sites. Each campsite features tables, fire rings, and access to well-maintained vault toilets, but note that potable water is only occasionally available at the main loop during peak summer months. The surrounding forest includes limber pine, Engelmann spruce, Douglas fir, and aspens, creating a picturesque environment perfect for seclusion and exploration. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities such as hiking the nearby Turtle Rock Trail, rock climbing on world-class granite, or simply soaking in the breathtaking views of the Medicine Bow National Forest.
Vedauwoo’s proximity to Laramie and Cheyenne makes it an excellent base for both day trips and extended stays. The area’s historic character, once a Native American gathering site and later an outlaw hideout, adds a fascinating layer to its natural allure. Whether stopping for a night or indulging in a weekend getaway, Vedauwoo Campground offers a harmonious blend of adventure, solitude, and scenic splendor.
