About Wanatee Park Campground
What sets Wanatee Park Campground apart is its remarkable fusion of natural allure, diverse amenities, and proximity to both serene trails and urban conveniences. Located just southeast of Marion, Iowa, the campground offers a tranquil retreat with well-maintained campsites shaded by mature trees, providing a peaceful outdoor ambiance ideal for both relaxation and family getaways.
The campground features 69 sites, separated into two distinct loops (A Loop and B Loop), catering to a variety of camper preferences. With water and electrical hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, and a modern shower and restroom facility, it ensures a comfortable experience for both RV and tent campers. A Loop allows for reservations, while B Loop operates on a first-come, first-served basis, providing flexibility for planners and spontaneous visitors alike. Additional on-site amenities include two dumping stations, a dog exercise area, and a playground, making it a family- and pet-friendly destination.
Beyond the campsites, Wanatee Park boasts a 4-mile trail system that winds through diverse landscapes, from open meadows to wooded creek bottoms. Popular for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing in winter, the trails bring visitors closer to nature. For a change of pace, the park is a short drive from Cedar Rapids, where attractions like the nearby Indian Creek Nature Center and the historic Usher's Ferry Village offer enriching day-trip options within 30 minutes.
