With nine basic campsites featuring fire rings, tent pads, and picnic tables, as well as vault toilets, the campground provides a no-frills setup designed to immerse visitors in the surrounding George Washington and Jefferson National Forest. Water is unavailable on-site, so campers must come prepared, but the reward is immediate trailheads to renowned hikes like Big Schloss and Tibbet Knob, both offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Appalachian Mountains. The campground also connects to the extensive Tuscarora Trail system, which weaves through the forest, creating opportunities for day hikes or extended backpacking trips.
Located roughly 15 minutes south of Wardensville, West Virginia, Wolf Gap is an excellent base for exploring nearby attractions like Trout Pond, the only natural lake in West Virginia, and its surrounding recreation area.
