About Yavapai Campground
What sets Yavapai Campground apart is its seamless blend of tranquility, natural splendor, and proximity to Prescott's conveniences, all perched at a refreshing 5,600 feet elevation in the Granite Basin Recreation Area. This campground offers a peaceful retreat with shaded sites surrounded by ponderosa pine, oak, and manzanita, while also providing easy access to outdoor activities and local attractions.
Yavapai Campground features 21 campsites, including three walk-in sites, each equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and defined tent pads. Though modestly sized, the sites maintain a sense of privacy and are suitable for both tents and small RVs (up to 25 feet in length). Amenities include drinking water, composting restrooms, and trash recycling, though RV hookups and dump stations are unavailable. The grounds are thoughtfully integrated into the rugged terrain, offering an authentic wilderness experience without forgoing basic conveniences.
Located just seven miles northwest of Prescott, the campground is ideal for various outdoor pursuits. Granite Basin Lake, only two miles away, is perfect for fishing, canoeing, and picnicking, while the nearby Granite Mountain Wilderness and extensive trail systems offer hiking, bird-watching, and mountain biking opportunities. A 15-minute drive leads to Alto Pit OHV Area for off-roading and Thumb Butte Trailhead for striking views and challenging hikes. With year-round accessibility, Yavapai Campground accommodates scenic weekend getaways or extended stays for nature enthusiasts.
