About Yukwah Campground
What sets Yukwah Campground apart is its serene riverside setting along the South Santiam River, surrounded by towering Douglas firs and hemlocks, offering campers an immersive natural retreat with a blend of tranquility and accessibility. This small campground, located 21 miles east of Sweet Home, Oregon, features 13 campsites, many of which are situated directly along the water, making it ideal for those seeking solace in nature or engaging in river activities like fishing and swimming.
Originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, Yukwah Campground retains its historic charm while catering to modern camping needs with amenities such as vault toilets, drinking water from hand-pump wells, fire rings, and picnic tables. The Yukwah Nature Trail, a 0.3-mile accessible path within the campground, provides a gentle way to explore the area, including river views from platform overlooks. For hiking and biking enthusiasts, the nearby Santiam Wagon Road Trail offers a deeper dive into the region's scenic and historical highlights.
Easily accessible via Highway 20, Yukwah Campground serves as a convenient gateway to explore the lush Willamette National Forest. Within a 30-minute drive, visitors can enjoy additional outdoor adventures at Fernview Campground, Trout Creek Campground, and the Menagerie Wilderness, as well as hikes to Iron Mountain and Gordon Meadows for stunning wildflower displays. Visitors can enjoy the mix of natural beauty, historical significance, and recreational opportunities, perfect for both weekend getaways and extended stays.
