Campground Overview
About Bear Heaven Campground
Isolated from the clamor of everyday life, Bear Heaven Campground stands out as a serene escape featuring striking rock outcroppings and dense forest within the Monongahela National Forest. With only eight primitive sites available on a first-come, first-served basis, its rugged charm pairs unique geological formations with a tranquil atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for those who crave solitude and nature immersion.
Located just 14 miles northeast of Elkins, West Virginia, and adjacent to the Otter Creek Wilderness, the campground is an excellent base for exploring the region's backcountry trails or testing your skills in stream fishing. Each campsite includes essentials such as picnic tables, fire rings, and gravel parking spurs, though visitors should be prepared for the lack of potable water and showers. A single vault toilet and bear-proof trash cans are available to enhance the rustic experience.
For sightseeing, the nearby Bickel Knob fire tower offers sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, easily reachable within a short drive. The Middle Point Trail, a 3.7-mile path that begins near the campground, provides an inviting hiking opportunity. Whether for a weekend getaway or a day trip in connection with the nearby wilderness, Bear Heaven Campground promises a peaceful retreat for adventurers seeking an unspoiled natural environment.
