About Pelton Creek Campground
How does camping along the edge of a pristine wilderness sound? Pelton Creek Campground, situated at the gateway to the Platte River Wilderness in Medicine Bow National Forest, offers a rustic escape with creekside campsites, wilderness trail access, and tranquil natural surroundings. This campground is perfect for those seeking intimate wilderness experiences, with fishing opportunities in Douglas Creek and direct access to the Douglas Creek and Platte Ridge Trails for hiking and exploration.
The campground features 16 campsites arranged in a single loop, some overlooking Pelton Creek and a scenic meadow framed by lodgepole pines. Amenities include picnic tables, fire grates, and well-maintained vault toilets, but campers should be prepared to pack out their own trash as there is no refuse disposal on-site. While the sites are fairly close together, creating limited privacy, the serene wilderness setting more than compensates. A stock unloading area is available nearby, though stock is not permitted within the campground itself.
Located approximately 25 miles from Centennial, Wyoming, and less than an hour’s drive from Laramie, the campground is ideally positioned for day trips to the Snowy Range or other scenic areas within Medicine Bow National Forest. Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or a short hiking excursion, Pelton Creek Campground provides an excellent base for immersing yourself in Wyoming’s rugged landscapes.
