Campground Overview
About Villanueva State Park
Villanueva State Park Campground defies expectations with its lush cottonwood canopy and striking red and yellow sandstone cliffs, creating an oasis-like retreat along the Pecos River in the otherwise arid New Mexico landscape. Located just 1.5 miles east of the historic village of Villanueva and within an hour’s drive of Santa Fe, this campground offers a rare combination of natural beauty, peace, and accessibility.
The campground features 33 well-maintained sites, 12 of which include electrical hookups, accommodating both tents and RVs up to 40 feet. Shaded by towering cottonwoods, the sites provide ample relief from the sun, with amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, flush and vault toilets, and showers ensuring a comfortable stay. Visitors can enjoy fishing, canoeing, or tubing on the Pecos River, or explore hiking trails leading to cliff-top viewpoints and ancient petroglyphs. A playground and visitor center add to the family-friendly appeal.
This tranquil park sits at an elevation of 6,110 feet and offers year-round camping, with seasonal adjustments to site availability and gate hours. Less than 30 minutes away, the surrounding areas offer opportunities to experience New Mexico's authentic small-town charm and historical landmarks, making Villanueva State Park a perfect destination for extended stays or serene weekend getaways.
