About Willow Creek Horse Camp
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Black Hills National Forest, Willow Creek Horse Camp in Hill City, South Dakota, stands apart with its specialized equestrian facilities, tranquil forested setting, and direct access to pristine wilderness trails. Designed predominantly for horse campers, this campground marries functionality with rustic charm, offering corrals at most sites, a horse waste station, and a central loading ramp.
The campground features 10 well-maintained sites, each equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and access to vault toilets. While drinking water may not always be available, two horse troughs are provided via a gravity-fed water line. Its location within the Norbeck Wildlife Preserve and proximity to the Black Elk Wilderness ensures an immersive experience, with trailheads like the Willow Creek Loop and Lost Cabin Trail offering scenic routes through pine forests and views of Black Elk Peak.
Located just 6 miles from Mount Rushmore and within 30 minutes of must-see attractions such as the Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway and Custer State Park, Willow Creek Horse Camp serves as an ideal base for day trips, extended vacations, or equestrian adventures.
