Campground Overview
About Kanza View Park
Perched atop a bluff at the eastern edge of Council Grove Dam, Kanza View Park Campground offers stunning panoramic views of Council Grove Lake, blending tranquil natural beauty with a sense of remoteness. This tent-only camping destination is ideal for those seeking a truly rustic experience, offering open grassy areas shaded by large Cottonwood and Oak trees, as well as a peaceful setting uninterrupted by modern conveniences like electricity or individual water hookups.
The campground features five primitive campsites, a shared water hydrant near a day-use picnic pavilion, and vault toilets. Its steep, rocky terrain limits access to the lake itself but provides an unparalleled vantage point for appreciating the surrounding Flint Hills. Recreation options include the park's highly regarded 18-hole disc golf course, which provides both a challenge and scenic lakeside views.
Located just a mile north of the historic town of Council Grove, Kanza View Park is also a gateway to the rich cultural history of the Santa Fe Trail and nearby natural attractions, including the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, which is an easy 18-mile drive south. This campground is best suited for nature enthusiasts seeking an authentic camping experience and a quiet escape, whether for a weekend getaway or a short visit.
