With its serene location on the shores of Council Grove Lake in Kansas, Richey Cove Campground combines waterfront access, scenic natural surroundings, and dynamic recreation opportunities, making it an excellent choice for all kinds of campers. This campground excels in offering a blend of shaded sites and open grassy areas, modern conveniences, and the unique feature of being the only designated swimming area at the lake.
The campground includes 43 reservable campsites, ranging from RV and tent sites to a group camping area accommodating up to 40 people. Each site comes with amenities such as electric hookups, potable water, picnic tables, and fire rings. Campers can also take advantage of flush toilets, hot showers, and a boat launch for direct access to the lake. Highlights of the area include fishing for abundant crappie and catfish, boating on the clear waters, and exploring nearby trails like the scenic Pioneer Nature Trail. Wildlife enthusiasts and hunters will appreciate the 2,700 acres of public hunting land around the lake, while history buffs can visit the nearby town of Council Grove, a National Historic District just two miles south, rich with Santa Fe Trail heritage.
Situated in the rolling Flint Hills, Richey Cove is also a gateway to the Flint Hills National Scenic Byway, offering stunning views of the last significant expanse of Tallgrass Prairie in North America.
